The Luka State To Release 'The Price of Education' Mini-Album In June
Cheshire indie-rock band, The Luka State, are set to release their debut 7-track mini album, The Price of Education, on June 8th and I've been luck enough to have a listen to the entire record.
This albumhas been mixed by Chris Sheldon (Biffy Clyro, Foo Fighters, Feeder) and showcases some good old fashioned rock ‘n’ roll (‘Hangin’ Round’, ‘Feed Your Soul’ & ‘DayTime TV’), alongside some feel good indie-pop (‘The Believer’ & ‘Bring This All Together’) and even a nod to disco on their current single ‘Can’t Help Myself’. My favourite tunes are The Believer, Can't Help Myself and Feed Your Soul.
Below you can check the album's track by track description provided by the band! Don't forget: The Price of Education is out on June 8th!
‘The Believer’ - This is a song about wanting acceptance. That feeling of wanting to be accepted by your loved ones, no matter who they are and no matter what you do. As long as I believe in myself I will never fail. I think a lot of people can relate to that.
‘Hangin’ Round’ - This song is about a local lad from our town who went to prison for a while. Whilst on the outside he had this gorgeous girlfriend who stayed with him because of all the glitz, glamour and money. Once he’s on the inside he discovers that all is not what it’s cracked up to me. She loved the lifestyle, not him. That’s why she kept hanging round. The song is telling him to open his eyes and see the error of his ways.
‘Feed Your Soul’ - This song is about cheating, lies, deceit but also about finding yourself. It’s a wake up call. “I’m not going to take this shit anymore.” No matter who it may be, your ex, your boss or even your mate. Sometime you just gotta say no!
‘Can’t Help Myself’- This song is about love and lust and about obsession, to the point when you just can’t control it anymore. The song is quite seedy in some ways. It’s one to get a lap dance to if that’s your thing ha!
‘Daytime TV’ - This song is about escapism. That feeling of wanting to get out of your town, job, life etc. It’s about being stuck in the same place with no job and nothing to do but watch Daytime TV, the Jeremy Kyle Generation. I once heard someone say, “We all live in a town that everyone claims to hate yet nobody ever leaves.” That perfectly sums up this song.
‘Bring This All Together’ - This is a straight up love song. It’s about two people that are so different but so alike. It’s literally about wanting to wake up to the same person every morning for the rest of your life. It’s soppy bollocks, but isn’t that what we all want?
