Simon D James Unveils New Single ‘Written By Rules’

Following the release of his gorgeous single Over & Over, Brighton-based singer/songwriter Simon D James is back with Written By Rules, the third track to be lifted from his new EP, Days of Heaven, which sees the release of a new song every two weeks, being the remaining ones The Rhyme & the Reason (Sept. 20) and Fooled By You (Oct. 4).

I am loving this more stripped-back side of his music and how it perfectly sets a haunting atmosphere, especially thanks to those vocal harmonies (courtesy of Iva Vuchenovic) and smooth instrumentation. Simon's delicate vocal delivery gives the song an intimate and emotive touch that is perfectly backed by lush acoustic guitar plucks and smooth drums. 

Written By Rules was written after Simon volunteered in the Calais refugee camp for 7 months in 2015/16. It is a comment about the struggle for many people who are just looking for peace, yet the system is set up to not welcome them. This is one of those songs perfect for a laid back weekend at home when you just want to relax and surrender to the delicate melodies. Check it out below!
