Common Jack Shares New Single ‘Still Awake’
Common Jack, the project of Brooklyn-based Folk singer and songwriter John Gardner, has just shared his lovely new single Still Awake, the lead single of his upcoming EP set to arrive this summer.
Still Awake is a beautifully-written piece of indie-folk music with intricate guitar melodies that create a warm atmosphere for his lovely vocals to soar. Common Jack sings about the several late-night thoughts documenting his trouble sleeping, to which I can completely relate. Still Awake is also his love letter to close relationships and how they can keep us grounded during moments of uncertainty,, which fits perfectly with the current quarantine time we're living in. This is such a heartwarming piece of indie-folk music that is quite soothing and feels like a warm embrace, being perfect for those relaxing days at home. Have a listen to this beautiful song below!
Speaking about the song, Common Jack said,
Still Awake is a collection of late night thoughts documenting my trouble sleeping. I was writing it right before I proposed to my now fiancé, so I was feeling like I was at the beginning of a huge new chapter in my life. She sits at the center of the song as fleeting ideas float by. Lyrics such as 'our friends are packing up and moving far away / that's alright with me as long as they're doing okay' are followed by a recurring line: 'it's you and me / as far as I can see'. Ironically -- an unintentionally -- the song has a 'pacing the room' vibe that pairs well with quarantine in the time of pandemic.
