MAGUIRE Unveils New Single ‘Come Down’
MAGUIRE, the moniker of London-based multi-instrumentalist and singer Gillian Maguire, has just shared her brand new single Come Down, the latest single to be taken from her new EP, Fantaisies, out now via SevenFourSevenSix Recordings.
I am loving her vocals and how they instantly command the listener's attention to her beautiful storytelling. Come Down is a song that asks how and if it is possible to find balance and stability amidst the constant cycle of substance fuelled escapism. This message is wrapped around a mesmerising production with gorgeous piano chords intertwined with cool electronics and an infectious beat which create quite a warm atmosphere.
Speaking about the song, MAGUIRE said,
In a time when it is so easy to turn to altered states of consciousness to enhance the banal, this song questions whether it is in fact in the apparently ordinary everyday that we can access the beyond. At its heart is transcendence – from the down-to-earth to glimpses of the sublime. By shifting our perspective to appreciate the small details of life there is no need to heighten experience or continue the chase for ecstasy as everything we are searching for is right in front of us.
The song is accompanied by a dramatic dream-like video, directed by MAGUIRE’s sister, Anna Maguire, who says:
The video for ‘Come Down’ tries to echo the question that Maguire asks in the song; ‘will you catch me…?’ This question is one we should be asking of each other, of our surroundings and of ourselves, however this feels harder and harder to do as we grow older. Trusting that we will be caught is vital for jumping, transcending and going further than we think we can. How do we find the courage to trust? To jump?
