Augustine Unveils New Single ‘Summer Wine’
Swedish songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Augustine has just unveiled his brand new single Summer Wine, a nostalgic, fragile ballad about feeling trapped in the aftermath of a relationship’s demise.
Taken from his upcoming debut album, set to arrive later this year, Summer Wine beautifully showcases Augustine's gorgeous vocals and storytelling abilities over a mesmerising production that won me over from the start. Summer Wine is a heart-rending, raw ballad about the hopelessness of being stuck following the end of a relationship and desperately trying to find a way to free yourself from the memories of what you’ve lost.
There's somewhat of a cinematic touch that I really like and the whole production is quite warm, beautifully enhancing the emotion pouring from his vocals. I am particularly fond of the emotive piano chords that are beautifully intertwined with lush strings which effortlessly complement Augustine's featherlight, fragile vocal. Being recorded on an old-school analogue Telefunken tape machine gave the song a captivating retro, organic touch that enhanced the song's warmth and emotive touch which I think you will enjoy.
Accompanying the release, Augusting has shared its official music video which was recorded by Rassmus Björnson and David Sahlberg at the Swedish island Gotland. Check it out below!
I wrote most of the lyrics in spring, on a train to my family’s house on the Swedish west coast. The weather got brighter each day and people seemed so happy and hopeful, but I felt more distant than ever. ‘Trying out our summer wine’ became a symbol for the little things that you took for granted with someone, until it’s over and you just can’t get them out of your head.
