Esmeralda Shares New Single ‘I’m Not A Princess I'm A God’

Esmeralda, the moniker of 23-year-old British-Afghan artist, songwriter and producer Charlotte Samady, has just shared her brand new single I’m Not A Princess I'm A God, a captivating atmospheric alt-pop song taken from her upcoming concept EP, medusa was innocent, set to arrive early 2022.

Co-produced by BROOKFIELD (Charli XCX, Anne Marie) and electronic artist Sølv, I’m Not A Princess I'm A God dissects the complexities of female empowerment over a memorable production that creates a sense of ethereal, celestial space through atmospheric synths and vocal harmonies. I am very fond of Esmeralda's haunting vocals and how they soar beautifully over the infectious melodies packed with a distorted bass and cinematic drums. This is quite an enthralling listening experience perfect for a warm, laid-back day at home. Check it out below!

Speaking about the song, Esmeralda said,
‘I’m Not A Princess I'm A God’ is about being presumed fragile and passive but having this burning need for power and control. Being a feminine-presenting person, people can implicitly think of you as dependent on men and patriarchal figures….The princess, the damsel in distress who needs saving. The song rejects that narrative, whilst indulging the cheeky god complex I’ve got brewing under here! As much as it is a song about female empowerment, I also wanted it to include edges of this dark megalomania.
