22-year-old British singer-songwriter Bertie Newman is kicking off 2023 with a heartfelt new single entitled I Will. What I like the most about this song is its warmth and how packed with emotion Bertie Newman's serene vocals are.
I Will is an evocative indie-pop song about change; the kind of subtle transition that you’d least expect due to being in a well of depression and anxiety. Apart from his memorable, serene pop vocals, I am particularly fond of the scaling guitar notes which are seamlessly intertwined with emotive piano chords and atmospheric reverb that together create a warm and intimate atmosphere perfect for a reflective day. Bertie artfully incorporates naturalistic images like “morning sun” and “cold and darkened sky” to portray the subtle mood shifts that makes this such an engaing listen. This is one of those songs perfect to give you that extra dose of confidence for opening yourself up to the possibilities of the new year. I am also very fond of the rousing, upbeat chorus that sounds like a mantra to really push through the low moments in life and get one hyped up to whatever new may come to our lives. ‘I Will’ explores the shift of my past pre conceptions and associations with particular objects, places and people to how I feel now. I wanted to show the change in my mental state by making an ultimately happy and hopeful song, sound somber, just as I once felt.
