The Collection Share Heartfelt New Single ‘Medication’
American indie-pop band The Collection share their brand new single Medication, a powerful song that challenges the negative stigma surrounding depression and seeking help.
Out now via Nettwerk Music, Medication finds the bad at their most vulnerable state as frontman David Wimbish sings about his experience with severe depression, sadly a topic many of us can relate to. The song encourages people to get the help needed and become a healthier version of themselves. I am particularly fond of the way his passionate vocals soar over the captivating production and the mantra-like verse "I deserve to be well" being sung over and over again, showing how much he has fought to improve his mental health. This heartfelt, relatable storytelling is wrapped around infectious melodies featuring emotive piano chords seamlessly paired with a thumping beat, catchy handclapping sounds and brass elements that together create an overall warm, uplifting and anthemic atmosphere. Check it out below!
Speaking about the song, David Wimbish said,
Despite having experienced severe depression since I was 15 years old, I’ve always been hesitant to take meds for it. Perhaps because of internalized stigma, as well as lack of information. After struggling with depression during a particularly difficult year, a friend told me 'maybe your brain just doesn’t produce as much serotonin as other people. You deserve to live a life at more than 50%.' It was the final push I needed; I got on meds and felt my mental health significantly change. ‘Medication’ is inspired by me processing my own journey to becoming a healthier version of myself.
