Bird Shares New Single ‘Roy’

Bird, the moniker of British/Irish singer and songwriter Janie Price shares her brand new single Roy, a delicate slice of string laden Americana out now via Pop Fiction Records.

What I like the most about this song is Bird's delicate vocals and ethereal harmonies that beautifully infuse the song with a dreamy touch that I find quite comforting and captivating. Co-written by Bird alongside Ally McErlaine, Roy is the lead track from Bird's forthcoming acoustic EP and invites listeners on a hauntingly beautiful journey inspired by the fascinating legend about two of music's most iconic figures, Roy Orbison and Elvis Presley.

The story, first heard by Bird retold in a documentary by his son Orbison Junior, claims that Roy Orbison and Elvis Presley were not only close friends in life but that their bond continued even after death. The legend goes further to suggest that Orbison, upon hearing of a plot to steal Elvis’ body from its resting place, stepped in to thwart the thieves, protecting his late friend's legacy.

The story's evocative imagery inspired Bird to create this song that explores loyalty, friendship and the surreal connections that transcend life and death. A message flawlessly conveyed through Bird's stunning vocals which are accompanied by intricate acoustic guitar plucks and lush strings that come together to create an overall warm, intimate atmosphere.
