Emma Hughes Shares New Single ‘Goodbyes’

London-based folk-pop singer, songwriter and musician Emma Hughes shares her new single Goodbyes, a heartfelt cinematic pop gem out now via Mahogany Songs.

What drew me towards this song was Emma's rich, expressive voice which is quite commanding and captivating, radiating raw emotion and soul from start to finish. Goodbyes finds the talented artist showcasing her natural gift for writing thought-provoking, yet deeply relatable stories, through her lyrics and stunning vocals. Goodbyes explores the different range of emotions that are felt after a breakup, from the pain and frustration, to the sadness and eventual acceptance that breakups do hurt. A message flawlessly conveyed through her rich vocals which are accompanied by delicate, emotive piano keys nicely paired with steady drum patterns, warm rhythms and lush guitar plucks that come together to create an overall heartfelt, intimate atmosphere.

Speaking about the song, Emma Hughes said,
I wrote the track when I was just at the start of a painful break-up and I felt really annoyed. I was trying to resist the fact that the relationship was over and I was trying to avoid the imminent sadness that came with it by masking it with anger. I had an idea for the concept of the song while ranting to a friend about how much I hated different aspects of the break-up but that really I was just masking the sadness and I just hated the fact that it was over and I couldn’t control it. I sat down at the piano and the words sort of tumbled out of me. It’s become quite a cathartic song for me to play because I get to bash out some of my frustration in the piano chords and belt it out in my singing. I want listeners to feel the pain and the frustration that I was feeling in the moment. I think people will be able to relate to that feeling of anger, frustration and sadness all mixed up together and the eventual acceptance that you have to just let it be and it’s going to hurt.
