Bestfriend Share New Single ‘YOU LOOK JUST LIKE ME’
Bestfriend, the project of Korean-Canadian Stacy Kim (lead vocals/guitar) and Canadian Kaelan Geoffrey (synthesizers/vocals), have just shared their brand new single YOU LOOK JUST LIKE ME, an energetic alt-pop song out now via Nettwerk Music.
Taken from their upcoming project, slated for this Spring, YOU LOOK JUST LIKE ME finds the duo sharing a message about how we mirror traits of all of the people we've ever loved— for better or for worse. It reflects on identity, fear of change and realising that we're always going to depend on others to help us figure out who we are whether we like it or not.
One of the things I like the most about this song is how it has a cool 90s indie-pop vibe which brings me back some fond memories growing up. Stacy's smooth, expressive vocals soar effortlessly over the captivating production and explore the intricate connections we have with others, highlighting how we reflect their traits and experiences while navigating our identities and the inevitable influence of those we love.
Accompanying her lovely vocals we have killer guitar riffs nicely intertwined with a rhythmn-leaning bass, cool drums and dreamy synths that come together to create an overall warm, upbeat atmosphere perfect for a laid-back, introspective weekend and late night drives.
Speaking about the song, Bestfriend said,
As individuals, a lot of us are the people we spend our lives with. There are strings tied between ourselves and those people so fine we miss a great deal of them before we’re gone. We pick up pieces of each other as we go and forget they weren’t always ours. Sometimes we don’t even notice ourselves doing it; often it’s our biology doing it for us. In our smallest moments it’s so easy to feel like the only person in the world, when in reality we’re following very similar paths and experiences that our loved ones have. Of course, their moments of weakness are quiet as well, so your similarities are tough to spot. But when you shine a little light on yourselves you can see the strings shimmer.
