The Knocks x Dragonette Drop New Single ‘Foolish Pleasure’
GRAMMY-nominated and multi-platinum-selling NYC dance music luminaries The Knocks and Canadian dance-pop diva Dragonette are back with their brand new single Foolish Pleasure, yet another 80s-infused pop banger that got me hooked right after the very first listen!
Out now via Neon Gold Records, Foolish Pleasure is the latest single to be taken from their debut collaborative album Revelation (out on June 6th), following their previous gems Revelation and The Hero. This new era is set in a 1980's corporate liminal space at the fictional company Revelation Technologies, with Aquaria (RuPaul’s Drag Race winner) being the muse.
I adore Dragonette's (aka Martina Sorbara) gorgeous, expressive vocals which are packed with so much soul and emotion that is impossible not to fall in love with this song! Foolish Pleasure finds the talented artists sharing a relatable message of wanting to escape from the stress of work and responsibilities in one's life. We try to pursue adventure and spontaneity as a way to cope of all the stress and issues that come from being an adult.
This song is wrapped around a memorable 80s-infused dance-pop production with bright, shimmering synths nicely intertwined with a memorable driving beat, cool rhythms and beats that create an overall blissful, feel-good atmosphere perfect for a fun weekend!
Speaking about the song, Dragonette said,
This song started off so differently than it ended up. In fact, I don’t think any single vocal from the original idea stayed in the final version. But the feeling and the emotion of it was always the same. I think everyone can relate at some point to the sense that work and stress and responsibilities have taken over your life and it can reach the point that the pursuit of adventure and spontaneity feels like necessary medicine.
